 What does an informed citizen need to know about biology? Do you need to know that "mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell?" Do you need to dissect a frog? What aspects of biology are relevant in the 21st century? Biology For Life takes a non-traditional approach to non-majors biology. Rather than surveying all of biology, this book focuses on a few topics that are relevant to your life. Furthermore, the laboratory components of this book focus on data analysis and presentation rather than data generation. It is highly unlikely you will need to look through a microscope as part of your post-college career, so why spend time on that? It is much more likely that you will need to work with large datasets, probably using Excel or similar spreadsheet applications. Therefore, Biology For Life provides you with knowledge and skills that will be useful after college.
